Saturday, August 8th started early and ended in high fives, wet hair, and hotdogs. Athletes of every stripe, first-timers to seasoned racers, took on the crystal-clear waters of Mahogany Lake for a 1.2km swim between our two community beaches. Buoys marked the way, lifeguards and safety kayaks watched every stroke, and neighbours lined the shore to cheer everyone home.
The Story
A Morning on the Lake
By 7:30 a.m., the beach was already alive with nervous energy. Swimmers picked up their race packages, pulled on wetsuits, and traded pre-race jitters with old friends and new ones, before gathering for a final briefing at 9:00 sharp.
Then came the splash. Wave after wave launched from West Beach, cutting a line across the open water toward Main Beach, guided by a course of buoys and watched over by a small army of lifeguards and safety kayakers. For newcomers, it was a first taste of open water racing. For veterans, it was a chance to push their pace across one of the most scenic courses around. For everyone, it was Mahogany at its best: a lake, a community, and a shared sense of accomplishment.

A Well-Earned Finish
Swimmers climbed out of the lake to the smell of the grill, courtesy of the Burton Home Team. Their support helped bring this event to life, and their finish-line hotdogs turned tired legs into big smiles fast, judging by the seconds (and thirds), it's safe to say the post-swim hotdog is now officially part of Beach 2 Beach tradition.
Thank you for showing up for our athletes, and for being part of what made this morning so special.
