Watercraft Rentals

Before You Rent

Watercraft rentals are available to Mahogany residents in good standing who have signed a waiver on file. Renters 16 years and older don’t need an adult present, but if you’re 16 or 17, your waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian. Guests are welcome, but only alongside an active resident aged 16 or older  — a guest can’t rent equipment or supervise anyone on their own.

Watercraft Rental Hours

Arriving Early?

Boat rentals begin at 9:30 am. Our staff use the morning to inspect every boat, lifejacket, and dock to make sure everything is ready for a safe day on the lake.

Take a moment to enjoy the scenery! You might even spot some of Mahogany’s resident loons while you wait.Once daily park inspections are complete, we’ll get everyone out on the water as quickly as possible.

The Basics

Wear it, zip it

Your lifejacket must be worn and fully fastened the entire time you're on the water, as per City of Calgary Bylaw No. 9084.

Know your time

1 hour for kayaks, paddleboards, and pedal boats. 2 hours for canoes and row boats. Return at least 30 minutes before closing.

Return where you launched

Stay on your watercraft the entire time and come back to your original launch point. The only exception to this is weather and emergency situations.

Stay out of swim zones

No watercraft (Mahogany HOA or personal) may enter the designated swim zones at any time. This allows everyone to safely enjoy the water.

Guests

A guest who isn't a Mahogany resident cannot rent equipment on their own and can't supervise anyone else on the water. An active resident aged 16+ must be present the whole time.

16–17

Residents 16 and older don't need an adult present to rent, but if you're under 18, your waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian before your first rental.

Ages 12–16

Can rent and paddle a single kayak or paddle board on their own, as long as a resident 16+ is out with them in a separate watercraft.

Ages 8–12

Can use a youth-sized kayak or paddle board — not adult-sized craft — with a resident 16+ nearby in a separate watercraft.

Under 8

Must be in the same watercraft as their supervising adult. No solo craft of any size for this age group.

Heads up

If the supervising resident decides to head in or leave the water, everyone they're supervising — guests and kids alike — comes in with them at the same time.

Safety Rules

Wear your lifejacket, fully fastened, at all times

Stay with your watercraft for the full rental

Stay outside designated swim zones

Return to your original launch point, not any dock

Guests and minors under 16 need an active resident (16+)

Follow all directions from Beach Club staff

Weather & Safety Holds

Conditions can change fast on the lake, so our staff actively monitor weather and may temporarily pause rentals.

Thunder or Lightning

Everyone on the water (swimmers, personal boaters, renters, and anglers) must clear the water immediately.

Stay off the water for at least 30 minutes after the last flash of lightning or rumble of thunder, or until staff say it’s clear.

High Winds

Rentals are reviewed for possible pause once winds hit 30 km/h or more. Pedal boats are the most wind-sensitive and are usually the first paused. Other watercaft may follow if conditions worsen.
