Swimming is one of the most valuable life skills a person can develop. At Mahogany Lake, our swim lessons are designed to help residents build confidence in the water while learning the skills needed to enjoy a lake environment.
All programs follow the Lifesaving Society curriculum, adapted specifically for open-water learning. Lessons focus on swimming ability, water safety awareness, endurance, and practical skills that support safe recreation on the lake.
From a child’s first float to advanced lifesaving skills, Mahogany offers a clear pathway for swimmers of all ages and levels to grow their confidence and ability in the water.
The Mahogany Swim Pathway
Swimmers progress through structured levels that build skills gradually and safely. Each stage focuses on strengthening comfort in the water while introducing new techniques and safety awareness.
- Preschool Programs (Ages 3–6): These early levels introduce swimmers to water in a supportive, engaging environment. Children develop comfort in water while learning foundational skills such as safe entry and exit, floating, gliding, and early swimming movements.
- Swimmer Levels (Ages 6–12): These levels build swimming technique and endurance while strengthening deep-water confidence. Swimmers gradually develop stroke skills, breathing techniques, and the ability to move safely and efficiently through the water.
- Leadership & Lifesaving Programs (Ages Vary): Experienced swimmers can progress to programs that introduce teamwork, aquatic fitness, and rescue awareness. These programs help develop leadership skills and an understanding of water safety responsibilities.
- Teen & Adult Programs (Ages Vary): Mahogany also offers beginner-friendly programs for teens and adults who want to learn to swim or improve their confidence in the water. These programs focus on practical swimming ability and comfort rather than competition.
Lesson Formats
To help families fit swim lessons into their summer schedules, Mahogany offers several program formats:
- Block Week Classes: Block week classes provide focused instruction over four consecutive days. Swimmers attend short daily lessons that allow them to concentrate on skill development within a single week.
- Weekly Classes: Weekly lessons run once per week over a six to seven week session. This format allows swimmers to build skills gradually while maintaining a consistent routine.
- Teen & Adult Learn-to-Swim: These programs provide supportive, beginner-friendly instruction for teens and adults learning to swim or rebuilding confidence in the water. Small groups allow participants to focus on safety, confidence, and skill development.
- Water Safety Education Sessions: This drop-in series offes should water safety sessions led by trained staff. These 30-minute sessions are open to the public and provide practical information for anyone spending time at the lake.
Before You Register
To help ensure the best experience for swimmers and instructors, please review the following information before you register for any swimming programs.
- Choosing the Right Level: Selecting the correct level helps build skills safely and confidently. Review the level descriptions carefully and consider your swimmer’s comfort in deeper water and their ability to swim independently. If you are unsure which level is most appropriate, you can attend a Water Safety Education session for informal guidance or contact our team for assistance with placement.
- What to Bring: Swimmers should arrive prepared and ready to participate. Properly fitted swimwear, a towel, and a water bottle are recommended for every lesson. Because lessons take place outdoors at the lake, swimmers should also bring weather-appropriate clothing to stay comfortable before and after their lesson.
- Weather & Lake Conditions: Swim programs take place in a dynamic open-water environment. While every effort is made to run lessons as scheduled, weather conditions or lake safety considerations may occasionally impact programming. In the event of severe weather or unsafe water conditions, lessons may be delayed, modified, or rescheduled, and participants will be notified as early as possible.
