This is a remarkable and valuable accomplishment: in our arid climate, trees are not a natural feature of our landscape, save for riparian areas along rivers. Calgary’s urban forest on public land has an estimated value of over $1.3 billion.
Mahogany residents can assist by reporting dead trees to the City of Calgary through a straightforward process.
Here’s how:
- Identification: First, identify any dead trees within the community. This can include trees in public parks, along streets, or on city-owned properties. (use the Urban Forestry map below to identify the tree.
- Reporting Tree Concerns: Reach out to the City of Calgary, You can do this through phone, online, or by using any specific reporting tools or forms provided by the city (311 app). When reporting, be sure to provide a detailed description of the tree's location, and if possible, attach photographs to help city officials identify the tree easily.
- Follow-Up: If necessary, follow up on your report to ensure that the city has taken action. This can be done by contacting the department again or checking with any provided reporting tools or systems for updates. You can review the status of outstanding reports using the tool below
- Community Involvement: Encourage your community neighbors to be vigilant and report dead or hazardous trees as well. The more reports the city receives, the more efficiently they can address the issue.
